Red and pink are birthstones for three months: January-garnet, July-ruby and October-tourmaline (pink). Red represents martyrdom, and is used for Pentecost, Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Confirmation. Rose/Pink is used the 3rd Sunday of Advent and signifies the Church’s joy as Christmas approaches and encourages the faithful in their penitential devotions.
