Roman martyr and official under the Roman Emperor Diocletian who refused to persecute and kill Christians as he was ordered, and died for the Faith. He is the Patron Saint of Firefighters and Floods, because he was originally to be burned at the stake. He did not fear death and told his murderers to ignite the pyre so he could climb to heaven on the flames. Because of his confidence, the Emperor ordered him scourged then drowned in the Enns river with a rock tied around his neck. His courageous example is inspiration for our times.
