The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid-13th century. They lived in community there to imitate the Prophet Elijah in prayer and sacrifice, so as to be united with God. They built what is believed to be the first chapel dedicated to Our Lady, calling it Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. From there she received her title. The beloved Carmelite Order grew out of that heritage. Later in the 13th C. Our Lady appeared to St. Simon Stock, Prior General of the Order, and gave him the Brown Scapular, promising special graces to those who wore it in her honor.

This is a fine, handcrafted Rosary in the gorgeous golden and rich brown tones so associated with the gown of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the Carmelite habit. It features vintage golden crystal pearls for the Hail Mary beads, glowing warmly against petite black, white, and brown spacers.
